THE WIZARD OF OZ

Thorp is one of our oldest and  largest Schoolsite programs.  This Spring, we are pleased to present an ensemble-driven adaptation of the beloved musical The Wizard of Oz. Rehearsals and performances right at your school!  This program is non-auditioned; everyone is welcome!

Note:  There are two levels.  The 1st-2nd Grade program will be a creative drama & musical storytelling program based on the characters, story and other elements of The Wizard of Oz.

1st-2nd GRADE PROGRAM OVERVIEW: Students learn the foundations of theatre and creative storytelling in this Creative Drama program. They will learn how to develop characters, tell cohesive stories, and explore song & movement as tools for narrative. This program culminates in a final showing comprised of songs and scenes from The Wizard of Oz as well as examples of our creative exploration of the story.

BEGINS:  February 13, 2019

MEETS:  Wednesdays, 2:30pm

*No rehearsal on non-school and early release days. 

PERFORMANCE: 1st-2nd Grade performance on Wednesday, May 15. This is a regular rehearsal day.

TUITION: Earlybird is $145, thru December 31 (based on ~$6 per hour); after December 31, tuition increases to $160.

POLICIES: Families are required to read and acknowledge policies, including attendance, financial, behavior and others, when enrolling. By enrolling in this class, you agree to abide by all of our policies. All school policies and expectation for behavior are always in effect, in addition to WCP policies.

GRADES 3-8 OVERVIEW: Intermediate- level skills in acting, vocal production and movement. They prepare a fully-produced, 60 minute adapted version of Wizard of Oz with costumes, props, lighting, and scenic elements. Rehearsals and performances right at your school! No audition required; tryons for roles happens during the first week of class. This older group could be split into two casts if enrollment warrants.

BEGINS:  February 13, 2019

MEETING DAY / TIME / LOCATION: Wednesdays 2:30pm-4:30pm at Thorp, usually in the auditorium.

*No rehearsal on non-school days and early release days.

EXTRA TECH/DRESS REHEARSALS: (Level 3)

****Monday May 20, 2:30-5:30pm (bring your own snack today)

**** Wednesday, May 21, 2:30-5:30pm (bring your own snack today)

****Thursday, May 22 2:30 pm-5:00pm. Followed by dinner break & show (bring your own snack today)

PERFORMANCES:

SHOW May 22 @ 6:30pm after rehearsal

*Final performances might be subject to change based upon class enrollment and casting.

ABOUT THE WIZARD OF OZ:  The Wizard of Oz follows the story of Dorothy, a young girl who finds herself somewhere over the rainbow in the magic land of Oz. Though at first magical and enchanting, Dorothy soon realizes that she wants nothing more than to get back to Kansas. Along the way she learns that not all witches are wicked (though some definitely are) and Things are not always what they seem. Dorothy ultimately learns that growing up takes brains, courage, and a lot of heart.
