ANYONE CAN BE A PRINCESS IF THEIR HEARTS ARE OPEN AND THEIR ACTIONS TRUE. Presented as our Holiday MainStage show, featuring a cast of professional adults and auditioned youth & teens. WE GOT TROUBLE…RIGHT HERE IN RIVER CITY! The Music Man is presented as part of our MainStage season, and features some of the most talented professional actors in Chicago, in addition to a large cast of youth and teen actors. Six-time, Tony Award-winning The Music Man is family entertainment at its best. The story follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he vows to organize – this despite the fact he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain’s fall. The musical score contains a whole list of musical theatre standards, like “Gary, Indiana,” “Trouble in River City,” “Lida Rose,” and “Seventy-Six Trombones.” THE MUSIC MAN will include auditioned and non-auditioned youth & teen ensemble and supporting characters, training alongside professional adults and performing in the shows.

IT’S POSSIBLE! The timeless enchantment of a magical fairy tale is reborn with the Rodgers & Hammerstein hallmarks of originality, charm and elegance. Originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium. Its recreation in 1965 starring Lesley Ann Warren was no less successful in transporting a new generation to the miraculous kingdom of dreams-come-true, and so was a second remake in 1997, which starred Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as her Fairy Godmother. As adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity, the hearts of children and adults alike still soar when the slipper fits. In this specially adapted Youth version, all the beloved songs and familiar characters are present and accounted for. However, the entire script has been condensed to better suit young attention spans, and the plot has been slightly altered so as to highlight some important lessons that exist in this timeless tale.

WE’VE GOT MAGIC TO DO! Heir to the Frankish throne, the young prince Pippin is in search of the secret to true happiness and fulfillment. He seeks it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh and the intrigues of political power (after disposing of his father King Charlemagne the Great). In the end, though, Pippin finds that happiness lies not in extraordinary endeavors, but rather in the un-extraordinary moments that happen every day. Pippin’s message is universal and will connect with audiences across the age spectrum. The tuneful score includes “Corner of the Sky” and “We’ve Got Magic To Do.”
SHAKE IT UP, SHAKE IT UP! One of Roald Dahl’s most beloved works – and many of our students will have read and studied this book recently in their own classroom! When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he finds himself in the center of the gigantic peach – among human-sized insects with equally oversized personalities – but, after it falls from the tree and rolls into the ocean, the group faces hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements. Thanks to James’ creative thinking, the residents learn to live and work together as a family. The dangerous voyage is a success, but the adventure takes a whole new twist once they land on the Empire State Building. This new musical is written by the award-winning duo of Pasek & Paul. The fresh, uplifting score includes songs like: “Right Before Your Eyes,” “Shake It Up,” “Plump & Juicy” and “Welcome Home.” Directed by Jerry R. Foust & Jordan Richardson
